Your Body’s GPS

At one time or another, we’ve all experienced the gut feeling that tells us when something is right or wrong.

I like to think of this as our bodies’ inner intelligence.

It’s how we know we’re hungry.

Or, if we’ve eaten too much.

Other times, if you’ve made the wrong decision, your body might instinctively become tense.

You might suddenly have a stomachache or headache.

That’s your body trying to tell you something.

Yet, how many of us tend to ignore that little Voice, instead of paying attention?

If you have a tendency to numb your feelings, you may associate that state of numbness as a state of calm, but in truth, you are creating constant tension in your body.

Here’s another way to look at it:

When you are feeling hurt and angry, and resort to food to comfort yourself, do you devour that food with pleasure?

Or are you more likely to polish off a bag of chips, then wonder “how the heck did that happen?”

For many of us, it’s the latter – especially if we’re not paying attention in the first place.

What I’ve become more and more aware of lately, is that the human body is such a finely crafted machine. It always knows when something is ‘off’ – then does it’s very best to try and fix it.

That’s because our bodies are always striving for homeostasis – or balance.

Sometimes that means turning on itself, when it perceives a particular food as an ‘invader’ – that’s when our immune system kicks in & tries to protect itself.

Of course, it doesn’t have to be food.

The culprit can be a virus, a tweak in your back, or an imbalance in your muscles and joints.

The point is, the body always knows.

That’s your inner GPS.

It’s hard at work every moment of every single day, constantly making minute adjustments with minimal awareness on our part.

Even at night, when we’re asleep – that’s when even more repair work is being done, which is why sleep is so important.

Yet, much of the time we are totally clueless.

We think we can get by on very little sleep.

We tell ourselves it won’t hurt to take just one little bite of a food we are highly sensitive to.

But each and every time, the body knows.

And it will do it’s best to compensate any way it can – always trying to maintain that delicate balance.

Why am I telling you this?

The GPS system varies a bit from one person to the next, based on our individual needs and unique quirks.

Even so, at its most basic, it is generally the same for each and every one of us.

The reason why is simple:

Due to the demands we put on our bodies every day, we do best in an environment that is not only balanced but in absolute harmony with our lifestyle.

That is when we really thrive.

So, pay attention to what your gut, and your heart are telling you.

And focus on the things you really love!
